ØMEGA-3 PLUS is a unique formulation of science, nature and almost 30 years of research  by a Norwegian Research Professor on a very personal mission- to create a truly effective Omega 3 supplement.

Some recent scientific studies have questioned the effectiveness of omega 3 supplements. Most of these studies indicated that insufficient levels of omega-3’s per dose and oxidation of the omega-3’s after ingestion may be the cause of the problem.

But Professor Bjarne Østerud and his research team had already confronted the problem of oxidation when developing their first-generation supplement in the late 1990’s. Additionally, the research team believed that a lack of sufficient antioxidants in people’s diets may also play an important role.

The Professor’s personal motivation was driven by his close family’s genetic predisposition to heart disease and he believed their susceptibility could be reduced by creating a more effective omega-3 supplement - and for inspiration he and his team looked to the Inuit people of the Arctic.
T H E   I N U I T

The inspiration for ØMEGA-3 PLUS was the Inuit People of the Arctic who, researchers discovered, exhibited exceptionally good levels of heart health. Their traditional diet of fish, seal and whale blubber contained high levels of DHA and EPA, but more importantly, DPA*. All supported by their natural antioxidants.

However, when the oils were refined their natural antioxidants were destroyed, removing the oils beneficial effects.

The research team believed that this problem could be overcome by adding a powerful antioxidant to the formula.  They experimented with cold pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil, rich in one of nature’s most potent antioxidants -  polyphenols - and the results confirmed their theory. Nature had provided the Professor and his team with the final key ingredient to their Inuit inspired formula – olive oil from the Mediterranean.

Extra Virgin Olive Oils contain the highest levels of polyphenols, antioxidants that have been linked with better health.  Olive oil is also a source of oleic acid,  an unsaturated fatty acid. Replacing saturated fats in the diet with unsaturated fats helps maintain normal blood cholesterol levels.

Twenty five years later we, at OG Science and Wellbeing, asked the Professor to recreate his Inuit inspired formulation but by using a more sustainable and traceable source of Omega-3 oils.

He recommended one even richer in Omega-3’s than Salmon - North Atlantic Herring.

Atlantic Herring (Clupea Harengus)
is one of the most abundant fish species in the world. Atlantic herring can be found on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, congregating in large schools. They can grow up to 45 centimeters (18 in) in length and weigh up to 1.1 kilograms (2.4 lb).

They provide higher levels of Omega 3 than Salmon.

To maintain the effectiveness of his original Inuit inspired omega-3 rich formulation, the Professor added an omega-3 concentrate of DHA and EPA, but more importantly – DPA*.
