ØMEGA-3 PLUS: SCIENCE

ØMEGA-3 PLUS is a unique formulation

Using this formulation of science, nature and almost 30 years of research by a Norwegian Research Professor on a very personal mission- to create a truly effective Omega 3 supplement.

The Inuit

The inspiration for ØMEGA-3 PLUS was the Inuit People of the Arctic who, researchers discovered, exhibited exceptionally good levels of heart health. Their traditional diet of fish, seal and whale blubber contained high levels of DHA and EPA, but more importantly, DPA*. All supported by their natural antioxidants.

The prØblem of oxidation

When Professor Østerud and his team carried out their initial research into the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids they made a significant discovery.

When fish and marine oils are refined they oxidise and their anti-inflammatory properties are diminished, drastically reducing the beneficial effects of their omega-3s. (see Professor Østerud’s essay – ‘Creating OG’)

SØlving the problem of oxidation

Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil –

Nature’s Powerful Anti-oxidant

The Research Team believed the problem of oxidation could be overcome by adding a powerful anti-oxident to the refined fish oil. They experimented with one of nature’s most potent, rich in polyphenols – Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil and the research results confirmed their theory – the anti-oxidents in the olive oil protected the omega-3s from oxidising, thus enabling them to unleash their full potential.

Nature had provided yet another key ingredient to their Inuit inspired formula.

Extra Virgin Olive Oils contain the highest levels of polyphenols, antioxidants that have been linked with better health.  Olive oil is also a source of oleic acid,  an unsaturated fatty acid. Replacing saturated fats in the diet with unsaturated fats helps maintain normal blood cholesterol levels.

NØRTH ATLANTIC HERRING

Richer in Omega-3 than salmon

When we commissioned Professor Østerud to recreate his INUIT inspired formula using a more sustainable and traceable source of fish, he instinctively selected North Atlantic Herring, staple of the Scandinavian diet and one of the most abundant fish in the sea.

Ours are sourced in the cold, clear waters off Iceland. A stark contrast to the polluted Pacific from where many supplement producers source their oils.

Atlantic Herring

(Clupea Harengus)

One of the most abundant species in the world and ours are fished sustainably in the cold clean waters off Iceland.

Herring is a particularly rich source of DHA, EPA and Erucic Acid a long chained monounsaturated fatty acid, which in laboratory tests has been found to demonstrate a reduction in artherosclerotic lesions.

METICULOUS QUALITY CONTROL

Guarantees the integrity of OG Ømega-3 PLUS

When you spend almost 30 years developing a breakthrough Omega-3 supplement the production process becomes of paramount importance.

The process begins on our trawlers, operating in the North Atlantic waters off Iceland and is controlled by us at every stage.

Once caught the herring is filleted and the remains of the fish pressed to extract the precious oil, which is then taken to our multi-award winning filtration plant on the quayside in Kristiansund.

Before entering the facility the raw herring oil is analysed by our Quality Control department prior to going through four separate production processes which remove all contaminants and impurities. The Extra Virgin Olive Oil – which replaces any anti-oxidants lost during the purification process – is then added as well as the Omega-3 concentrate, which includes the essential fatty acids EPA, DHA and DPA and finally the vitamin D.

Vitamin d3

Important for maintaining a healthy lifestyle

Scandinavian Winters tend to be long, hard and dark, with just one hour of daylight in 24 hours. Consequently Norwegians are great believers in the benefits of vitamin D. And as many of us spend most of our working lives indoors we have included your daily dose of Vitamin D3 in our formulation.

Vitamin D3 is important for the absorption of calcium from the stomach and for maintaining healthy teeth, bones and muscles.

It is almost impossible to absorb sufficient amounts from food alone which is one of the reasons we have developed OG ØMEGA-3 PLUS.

OMEGA-3 CONCENTRATE

To ensure your optimum daily intake of 1000mg of omega-3s and maintain the effectiveness and integrity of the Professor’s original INUIT formula, we fortify OG ØMEGA-3 PLUS with an omega-3 concentrate, which contains not only EPA and DHA but also 100mg of DPA – a key element in the INUIT diet.

DPA is only found in small quantities in fish and is virtually non existent in other omega-3 supplements but research has demonstrated its profound effect on good heart health.

QUALITY ASSURED

Independent laboratory testing in Leiden, Netherlands demonstrated a 56.7% reduction in artherosclerotic lesion formation and a 33% reduction in cholesterol. This confirms the effectiveness of Professor Østerud’s second generation supplement and its ability to release the full potential of its Omega-3 oils.

ØMEGA-3 PLUS is MORE than just a supplement. It’s a new and Original Nutraceutical, the result of scientific research and high-quality sustainable ingredients.

ØMEGA-3 PLUS Is brought to you by OG Science + Wellbeing or ‘vitenskap og velvære’ as we say in Norway!
